We are GymCats

We are a small local Personal Training business based in Hurst (near Twyford) working out of our own private studio. Our focus at GymCats is on movement, performance and wellbeing.

We look at a person as a whole, working on strength and conditioning to help improve client’s movement and performance and aiming to reduce their risk of injury in their everyday lifestyle, all whilst considering their wellbeing. Alongside training, we are happy to discuss diet and nutrition with our clients in order to assist them with making small manageable changes that can become liveable and sustainable going forward in order to help create the lifestyle they are looking for.

It’s not just a healthy body we are interested in but a healthy mind too. We therefore try to offer other things alongside training that can assist with this. We have set up a Book Club that our members can attend, this may allow the challenge of a book to read, something out your comfort zone, or simply it may be an opportunity to have an evening out meeting different people, whatever it is, we try to create a relaxed environment for people to feel at ease.

Charlotte

I studied to become a PT 8 years ago, I had developed a keen interest in training and wanted to gain more knowledge. Once I qualified with my Level 2, I worked as a Gym Instructor at David Lloyd Reading whilst I continued towards my Level 3, this allowed me to start working with individuals and I realised that I really enjoyed passing on my knowledge and helping people to improve their health and fitness. After I completed my Level 3, I started to take on clients and worked with a variety of different people. Alongside my personal training I taught a circuits class which became one of the highlights of my week and was always fully booked with an awesome group of people.

My own training started with body building, once I had qualified as a Personal Trainer I decided I wanted to change my focus and work on my mobility and functional fitness – I basically want to be able to touch my toes when I’m 90! So alongside working with some experienced PT’s in the industry to further my own training and knowledge I decided to train in ANIMAL FLOW and become a Certified Instructor. This was the best decision I ever made – I have found an awesome discipline, which not only do I love, but I feel part of an incredible community of people. I love utilising ANIMAL FLOW both within Personal Training sessions but also teaching it as a solo discipline either 1-1 or in a group class environment. To me movement and mobility are key when working with clients and I really enjoy discovering new things I can do to help facilitate this, myself and Jamie attended a Stick Mobility workshop which was a lot of fun.

I have always loved a challenge and love pushing myself to see what I can do, I’ve completed the London Marathon, The Moonwalk Marathon, Climbed Kilimanjaro, stepped on Stage to compete in a physique competition and now set up a Personal Training Business with my best friend. It is the best feeling to be able to work on this together and have the opportunity to pick our own kit and put our own touch on things, I have loved welcoming our clients to our studio and I’m looking forward to see our business grow.

Charlotte’s sessions are hard but fun. What impresses me is how she obviously really plans the sessions in advance to suit my goals. I like the fact she keeps things interesting and every week is different but still with the same goals in mind.

Jamie

I’m Jamie - I trained as a PT 9 years ago as I love to learn and wanted to better my knowledge for my own training. I decided I had an even bigger passion for learning than I realised and wanted to share this with others. I started to use my qualification at David Lloyd in Reading and continued to further my studies with courses while I worked. I have gained certificates in:

Level 2 Fitness Instructor
Level 3 Personal Trainer
Level 3 Exercise Referral
Level 4 Strength and Conditioning
Youth Coach Strength and Conditioning
Animal Flow Level 2
England Boxing Coach Level 1
Precision Nutrition level 1
1st4sport Level 2 British Weightlifting Instruction

After three years working at David Lloyd, I decided with my partner to set up our own personal training business. We wanted to be able to put our own touch on a studio, invest in kit that we felt was of benefit to our clients and offer a unique service.

Training with Jamie has made me stronger, more flexible and most importantly makes me feel great. He strikes the perfect balance of pushing me really hard and making workouts achievable and fun.

The GymCats studio is peaceful, clean and well equipped and the moral support from the whole GymCats team, including Rosie and Jim, is excellent.
